Hello everyone! I finally go this thing set up and I'm going shopping today for a camera so pictures will be coming soon. Sorry it has taken so long. the first week went by kind of fast. The plane trip from Philadelphia to Muscat was ridiculously long, but I actually met some interesting people on each keg of the trip. After flying all night from Philly to Amsterdam, I was exhausted and extremely irritated, so I got a smoked salmon sandwich and ICE cold Heineken, which put me ion a way better mood! hahah!!
I've kind lounged around all week. My days are all mixed up because the weekends here are on Thursday and Friday, so along with the jet lag, I'm confused!!! Went shopping a few days ago, ate at an awesome Turkish restaurant and had Shwarma's, which is sorta like a Gyro, but wrapped in a tortilla wrapped thingy. They had this stuff there, and I can't remember what it was called, but it was like hummus, except made out of eggplant and I think Yohgurt (that's how they spell it here) and the stuff is sooooo good!! My favorite snack so far. I need to figure out what it is called and try to make it at home, that will absolutely be a recipe I will be bringing home with me. Also, I don't know what it so different about, but the olive oil here is AMAZING!! They put it on top of the eggplant stuff with some dried herbs, and it is so different then what I'm used to, can't really explain it, but it is delicious!
I've been lucky with the weather so far, it's been fairly "cool" according to my aunt, who has lived here for a couple years now. I'm in for some serious heat and humidity here shortly. Not too excited about that. The house is great though, it's a new 3 story townhouse. They are still doing construction around us, so at the moment I have a view of the Gulf of Oman from the balcony to my right, straight out over the buildings, I can see the "city" and to the left are these amazing mountain ranges. When you hear it you just think, "eh,they're just mountains" but they are different than the mountains I am used to, they have these huge crevices in them and they are tan, not to many plants it seems from my view. But they are HUGE! I promise I will post pictures soon. My camera broke on the trip here.
Well folks, thanks for waiting patiently for this blog, I will try to keep up and keep everyone posted. But now I have to go, cause today one of my aunts friends, who is a chef from the UK is taking me to the local street markets to go food shopping!! I've been waiting all week for this! I can't wait to see all the different spices, fruits and veggies they have!! Not to mention the seafood! since we are right on the ocean, the fish here is fresh fresh fresh! I get to go haggle with the local fisherman and bring home the daily catch. I'm getting giddy just thinking of it!! hahah!! I'll be sure to let you guys know what I get!
Miss you all and talk to you soon!xoxoxo
